Allison shows that there are different contexts of speaking by giving evidence from her personal life. The author supports her thesis by giving quotes from the people who spoke around her. Anzaldúa portrays this oppression by giving examples of personal experiences when people made situations difficult for her or looked down on her because of the language she spoke. Hendrickson provided proof of this misconception by giving her audience examples of instances where individuals have told her that they thought that she was a black girl after hearing her speak. Hendrickson contrasts her views of color versus her views of sound in order to give her readers reasons why it is so unusual that individuals are comparing her voice to the color of her skin.
